Here is the episode review for episode 5 of season one, called ‘Hiro’s’
It was a very good episode, with everything a person wants in it. Finally we got to see some Hero action!
This episode picks up from where the last one picked off, Peter on a frozen subway train, receiving a message from Hiro. If you had read the spoilers that I posted a couple of days ago, you would know that Hiro’s message is ‘Save the cheerleader; save the world.’ He also tells Peter that he must go back and see Isaac, but he must not tell Suresh too much. Could this be because Suresh will play a part against the Heroes?
We see Claire in the hospital. She is adamant that she is fine, which we know, she is. She turns and sees Brody, the quarterback, who is alive, and angry!
Meanwhile, Nathan is in pyjamas, in the custody of Claire’s father, and ‘the cleaner’. He breaks free from them and tries to escape. When they catch up with them, he threatens to kill both of them if they touch him. As ‘the cleaner’ goes in to ‘put him down’ he takes to the sky, at an amazing speed. He reaches supersonic as he flies off.
Niki wakes up in Nathan’s hotel room, slightly confused as to what happened. Nathan’s security ask her where Nathan is, and then Linderman’s people come in and tell them that they are working on getting him back. When they tell Niki that her slate is clean, she insists that she didn’t sleep with Nathan, although that isn’t the case.
Matt’s wife is angry at Matt, but that soon changes as he demonstrates some uncanny knowledge of what she wants.
In the outskirts of Vegas, two Japanese people are thrown out of a car. It’s Hiro and Ando, and Ando is not happy. They walk into a cafe and Ando keeps shouting at Hiro, saying that it was his fault that they got beaten up. Ando leaves, just in time to leave Hiro alone to watch something hit the ground from out of the sky. It is another one of our heroes, Nathan. Hiro tells Nathan that he is also special, that he can bend time and space, but Nathan doesn’t seem to believe him, I wonder why? Hiro also tells Nathan that New York goes boom, and that Nathan wins the election in a landslide.
Claire reluctantly tells her father what happened at the bonfire, as Peter is at Isaac’s again. He finds the painting of Claire, with a shadow cast over her.
Nathan catches up with Niki and asks her what happened the night before. Niki warns him that she was blackmailed by Linderman, just as he will be.
Mr Bennett pays Brody a visit. He threatens him, and then calls in ‘the cleaner’ to hollow out Brody’s memory. And yes, that necklace that he is wearing is a helix, the same as the tattoo that Niki has while she is her alter-ego.
Back at Isaacs, Peter finds a painting that is not quite finished. He realises this, but Isaac cannot finish it, he has no drugs. Peter closes his eyes, and when he opens them again, his eyes are clouded over. He starts to paint while in a trance.
Claire goes and visits Brody, and apologises about what she did. But Brody doesn’t know who she is, and asks why she keeps calling him Brody.
Ando drops by Niki’s house, and is faced by lots of guns. The police are at Niki’s house because DL Hawkins, her husband, has been spotted in the area.
Nathan uses his new found knowledge to get $4 million from Linderman, saying that he is only of use to them if he wins. And he will definitely win with $4 million.
Matt goes to a nearby store to get coffee and ice-cream for his wife. He can hear someone’s mind, someone who is going to raid the store. Matt spots the person and goes over to him. He tells him that it is not worth it. The man, freaked out as Matt tells him some stuff about his life, puts his gun down from out of his pocket, and runs out. Matt picks up the gun. The customers, thinking that Matt is going to rob the store, start thinking a little too much, and Matt passes out.
Back at Niki’s place, with the cops gone, she thinks she can hear something in the house. She doesn’t know it, but someone is there. It’s her husband DL.
Ando and Hiro meet again, make up and Ando tells him to call Isaac again.
Back at Isaac’s place, they look at the finished painting. It’s Claire, with the top of her head missing, covered in red blood. The phone rings. Isaac tells Peter it’s a Japanese man with the wrong number, but Peter picks up. The man says, ‘My name is Hiro Nakamura.’ Peter then says. ‘My name is Peter Petrelli, I have a message for you.’
The episode ends very much like the last one. It was very good, I will give it a 7, because there is so much more that the show has to give and it hasn’t quite peaked yet.
